Tom Davis Shares Ways to Maximize Value in a Competitive Media Landscape
Tom Davis & Mike Brown
(May 12, 2010)

Tom Davis, president of Davis Media, LLC, which owns two FM stations in the Williamsburg market and the digital newspaper Williamsburg Yorktown Daily, discussed media convergence trends at the May membership meeting of the PRSA Virginia Peninsula chapter.

Mr. Davis testified to the power of local media - and the importance of real-time news distribution channels - with examples drawn from over 20 years managing radio stations in various markets. He also discussed his innovative “promote through content model,” which combines the best assets of both radio and the newspaper industry under one platform. Today, Davis' Williamsburg Yorktown Daily has over 60,000 local readers and 44% penetration of the market’s 136,000 residents. In 2009, while the radio industry suffered 18% decline, Davis Media’s revenue grew by 18%. These results are evidence, Davis said, of the need to leverage traditional media in new ways.

"In the industry, we're watching media types converge. This event offered professionals a chance to consider communication trends in a fresh new way, and we appreciate Tom Davis for sharing his knowledge with our organization," said Chapter President Mike Brown.
