About Us – November 2008
PRSA Virginia Peninsula was formed in October 2007 to serve public relations practitioners who reside and work in Tidewater Virginia. The chapter has held organized membership meetings since November 2007 and elected its initial board of directors in December 2007.
We rotate our meetings from Hampton to Newport News to Williamsburg, so that each segment of our membership benefits from a meeting "in their back yard" a few times each year.
A Petition for Charter was submitted in April 2008 with the enthusiastic support of the nearby Richmond and Hampton Roads PRSA chapters. At the July 2008 meeting the national PRSA board of directors approved the petition and granted a charter to PRSA Virginia Peninsula, making the organization an official chapter of PRSA.
In the first three months more than 30 members joined the chapter, exceeding the first year’s goal entirely. With some 200 prospects and many more practitioners in Tidewater, PRSA Virginia Peninsula promises to grow and evolve in the years to come.
The chapter leadership and members have committed to develop the organization and foment new and existing relationships forming a dynamic network of public relations professionals in and around the Virginia Peninsula.
PRSA is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. Its nearly 21,000 members, organized into more than 100 Chapters, represent business and industry, technology, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations. Chartered in 1947, PRSA's primary objectives are to advance the standards of the public relations profession and to provide members with professional development opportunities through continuing education programs, information exchange forums and research projects conducted on the national and local levels. |
