Welcome to PRSA Virginia Peninsula. Our chapter is dedicated to serving the needs of public relations practitioners who live or work in Tidewater Virginia. With a cross section of industry represented among our membership, PRSA Virginia Peninsula provides members an active and fascinating network of PR pros from whom we learn and who bring perspective to our individual roles and make our life's work fun. Colonial Williamsburg Tour Impresses Chapter Members and Guests PRSA Virginia Peninsula members and guests had a fascinating presentation July 14 at Colonial Williamsburg! Anne Hillegass, marketing manager, welcomed our group to Colonial Williamsburg, and Agatha Capacchione, director of Tourism Travel with Missy Farren Associates, wowed us with details of the Artist-in-Residence event with actress Mamie Gummer. Agatha's stellar presentation gave us insight into how press coverage of the event was managed and how it also extended to the Costume Design Center. Brenda Rosseau, manager, hosted the tour of the Costume Design Center, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Brenda explained costume design, development and maintenance. She also provided a first-hand view of how the center outfits hundreds of employees from head to toe. What a great way to spend an afternoon! Thanks to everyone at Colonial Williamsburg for this great event! For more information about Colonial Williamsburg visit www.history.org (http://www.history.org).For information about membership, contact Courtney Efird, membership chair, (757) 873-7855 or current APRs (http://www.praccreditation.org/apr_m/aprmApplicationforAPRs.pdf) wishing to pursue APR+MFAQ (http://www.praccreditation.org/apr_m/aprmFAQ.pdf)Tom Davis Shares Ways to Maximize Value in a Competitive Media LandscapeTom Davis, president of Davis Media, LLC, discussed media convergence trends at the May membership meeting of the PRSA Virginia Peninsula chapter.Mr. Davis testified to the power of local media - and the importance of real-time news distribution channels - with examples drawn from over 20 years managing radio stations in various markets. He also discussed his innovative “promote through content model,” which combines the best assets of both radio and the newspaper industry under one platform. Today, Davis' Williamsburg Yorktown Daily has over 60,000 local readers and 44% penetration of the market’s 136,000 residents. In 2009, while the radio industry suffered 18% decline, Davis Media’s revenue grew by 18%. These results are evidence, Davis said, of the need to leverage traditional media in new ways. In the industry, we're watching media types converge. This event offered professionals a chance to consider communication trends in a fresh new way, and we appreciate Tom Davis for sharing his knowledge with our organization, said Chapter President Mike Brown.
